Stevenson's Shieldback

Synonyms: Anabrus stevensoni, Anabrus minutus, Stipator stevensoni

 

Pediodectes stevensonii is found in the Great Plains of North America (from Montana to Chihuahua and Coahuila, Mexico) and in the Rio Grande Valley (Map). It inhabits prairies, other grassy areas, and shrublands; often in foothills. Length 25-40 mm. Brown with a distinct white and black face. It is omnivorous, and feeds on plants, carrion, and small invertebrates.
